Significant occurrences:

1. VIR Region - 15 Oct. - 7 Sooke SAR responded to RCMP request to
                assist in locating two overdue surfers at Jordan
                River. SAR members were stood down after RCMP
                helicopter spotted the two at a campfire. RCMP dropped
                food down to the subjects where they would be staying
                until morning.

2. SWE Region - 15 Oct. - 6 Pemberton SAR and 4 PEP Air members
                responded to assist RCMP in locating two overdue
                mushroom pickers between Harrison and Lillooet Lakes.
                PEP Air and SAR were stood down after the subjects
                checked in with RCMP in fine condition.

3. CTL Region - 15 Oct. - 11 Kamloops, 1 Logan Lake, 9 Penticton,
                2 Central Fraser Valley, 6 Central Okanagan, 5 Hope
                SAR members, 3 Emergency Social Services, and 1
                First Nations Social Services Worker, assisted the
                RCMP in the search for a missing 16 yr old First
                Nations female in the Merritt area.  A thorough urban
                search, shoreline search of the Nicola River, a over
                fly with the RCMP helicopter and ATVs in the
                surrounding mountain areas did not turn up any clues.
                The search was stood down pending further police
                investigation.

4. VIR Region - 16 Oct. - 8 Port Alberni SAR responded to a report of
                a truck that flipped over and went into a river in the
                Arrowsmith area. On arrival to the scene there was no
                one in or around the vehicle.

5. SWE Region - 16 Oct. - 1 North Shore Rescue responded to rescue an
                injured hiker on the Grouse Grind in North Vancouver.
                The hiker was bandaged up and passed to BCAS for
                transport to the hospital.

6. VIR Region - 16 Oct. - 13 Saltspring and 4 Duncan SAR responded to
                search for a youth that left his group while on a
                canoe trip on Saltspring Island. SAR teams were stood
                down the following morning after notification that the
                male had stayed in the bush all night and returned to
                his father's residence in the morning.

7. NEA Region - 17 Oct. - RCC requested PEP Air assistance in locating
                an ELT sounding 20 km NW of the Prince George Airport.
                RCC stood down PEP Air prior to search as they had
                located the ELT.

8. SWE Region - 17 Oct. - 18 North Shore Rescue responded to request
                from RCMP to rescue an injured hiker on the Grouse
                Grind. The subject was packaged and brought down the
                hill on the tram, and was then turned over to BCAS
                for transport to hospital.

9. CTL Region - 17 Oct. - 3 Princeton SAR responded with 2 RCMP to
                locate a male that left his vehicle and entered the
                woods after being chased by RCMP in the Whipsaw Creek
                area. He was not armed or dangerous. RCMP believes
                the male came out of the bush after they had left the
                scene, search was stood down.

10. CTL Region - 18 Oct. - 28 SAR members from Penticton, Central
                Okanagan, Keremeos and Oliver augmented with 4 PEP Air
                and 4 Penticton Marine Rescue responded to Naramata to
                search for a 90 year old male suffering from
                Alzheimer's who wandered away from his residence
                overnight.  SAR teams conducted extensive ground and
                shoreline searches. Search was stood down after
                missing male was located, deceased.

11. NEA Region - 19 Oct. - 9 Fort Nelson SAR responded to RCMP call
                out for a vehicle in the Muskwa River. RCMP stood
                down the search when RCMP divers reported no driver
                in vehicle. RCMP will conduct further investigation.

12. SEA Region - 19 Oct. - 6 Sparwood SAR members responded to search
                for an overdue hunter in the Grave Lake area near
                Sparwood. The search was stood down when the hunter
                walked out of the area on his own.

13. SWE Region - 19 Oct. - 1 PEP Air member responded to an ELT
                sounding in the White Rock area.  RCC stood down PEP
                Air when the source of the ELT was located.

14. VIR Region - 20 Oct. - 10 Alberni Valley SAR members responded to
                search for a mushroom picker missing overnight in the
                Mount Arrowsmith area. He was located alive and well.
                His truck had broken down and he remained with the
                vehicle overnight.

15. SEA Region - 21 Oct. - 6 Cranbrook SAR responded to assist in
                locating a drunken male in a suburb of Cranbrook. The
                male was located later by the RCMP.

BODY RECOVERY

On 16 Oct 01, 4 Williams Lake SAR responded to coroner's request to
retrieve a body that was spotted in a ravine, east of Alexis Creek.

EVIDENCE SEARCH

On 17 Oct, RCMP requested Golden SAR to assist in an evidence search
after human remains, believed to be those of an individual missing
since 1983, were discovered on 16 Oct 01. Two SAR members were flown
by RCMP helicopter to the site, and evidence was located and placed
in RCMP custody. Due to level of the snow line there will be no
further searching until spring.
 
MISCELLANEOUS

On 18 Oct 01, Manager of Policy and Programs at PEP Headquarters
raised a Task # in amount of $10,000.00 to cover province wide response
to suspected biological/chemical terrorist acts.
