Significant occurrences:
1. VIR Region - 27 Nov. - 16 Port Alberni SAR members assisted RCMP
and Coast Guard following report of 3 males missing
from a fishing trip near Bamfield. Coast Guard
conducted search of Kildonan Inlet after their pick-up
truck was located near Poet's Nook. Port Alberni SAR
conducted a water search of the Sarita River and a
ground search of the Sarita Flats. Search was stood
down after RCC reported all 3 males were located alive
although hypothermic. Their boat had sunk in high
waves and they managed to swim 200 metres to a nearby
island to await rescue.
2. SEA Region - 27 Nov. - 6 Kaslo SAR members responded 2 Km North of
Woodbury, South of Kaslo, following report of vehicle
tracks leading over an embankment. SAR members searched
but could not find anyone in the area.
3. SEA Region - 27 Nov. - 10 members from Golden SAR searched the
Columbia River near Nicholson following report of a
missing canoeist. He and his dog were located alive
and well attempting to portage around a partially
frozen area of the river.
4. CTL Region - 28 Nov. - 6 Barriere SAR members responded to a BCAS
request to assist in freeing a male reported trapped
when a pile of logs rolled onto him. SAR members got
him out of pile and turned him over to BCAS personnel.
5. VIR Region - 28 Nov. - 4 Sooke SAR members responded to search for
a female who called in on cell phone to 911 to report
she was lost on the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail between
China and Mystic beaches. She was located alive,
suffering hypothermia and was brought out by SAR
members.
6. VIR Region - 28 Nov. - 30 Campbell River SAR members assisted RCMP
in search for a male mushroom picker who failed to
return from the Loveland Bay area 40 km from Campbell
River. He was located safe and sound.
7. CTL Region - 28 Nov. - 34 SAR members from Kamloops, Kelowna,
Vernon, Merritt, Logan Lake and Shuswap participated
in the search for a missing horseback rider in the
Stump Lake Ranch area. 2 PEP Air members were about
to take off as well when the horseman was located alive
and well. The horseman was caught by darkness while
out rounding up cattle and had to make camp for the
night.
8. CTL Region - 29 Nov. - 45 Central Okanagan, Princeton and Penticton
SAR members responded to assist RCMP in search for a
vehicle with a missing female suspected to have gone
over a bank off Princeton Road, Headwaters, Peachland
area. On 01 Dec 00, Keremeos, Oliver and Osoyoos SAR
teams were put on standby but prior to their response
the missing female was located in a cabin. She was
brought out of area suffering from dehydration and was
transported to hospital by ambulance.
9. SWE Region - 30 Nov. - 15 North Shore SAR members responded to
assist RCMP in search for a missing 80 year old male
with Alzheimer's disease. Male was located safe and
sound.
10. SWE Region - 30 Nov. - 7 Central Fraser Valley SAR responded to
RCMP request to assist in searching the Langley area
for an 86 missing male suffering from Alzheimer's.
Male was located while SAR team was mustering.
11. CTL Region - 30 Nov. - 15 Vernon SAR assisted RCMP in search for a
missing mother and son who went for a drive at 2100
29 Nov. PEP Air overflew the area in hopes of spotting
their vehicle. Missing subjects later turned up safely.
Apparently they had been involved in a quarrel.
12. NEA Region - 01 Dec. - PEP Air responded to assist RCC in search
for an ELT sounding in the Twin Lakes area near
Williams Lake. A Cessna had overturned in high winds
setting off the ELT. ELT was located and shut down by
a local helicopter owner.
13. SWE Region - 03 Dec. - 19 North Shore Rescue members assisted in
the rescue of a critically injured 55 yr old female
on the 3rd peak of Seymour Mountain. 4 Coquitlam SAR
members provided mutual aid. SAR members were
transported to area by helicopter to conduct a HFRS
rescue. Female was successfully rescued and
transported to hospital.
14. SWE Region - 03 Dec. - 12 Squamish SAR members responded following
report of a vehicle, with occupant, in the Squamish
River approximately 60 Km from the town. An eyewitness
stated that the vehicle was partially submerged. Due
to swift water situation SAR team was transported to
scene by helicopter. On arrival found lone occupant out
of vehicle and okay. Apparently individual had
attempted to cross the river in his new 4x4, but
vehicle started to float downstream and then sank,
becoming partially submerged instead.
15. VIR Region - 03 Dec. - 5 Campbell River SAR members assisted RCMP
in rescue of a diver who became trapped in an
artificial reef (sunken vessel HMCS Columbia) between
Quadra Island and Campbell River Search is ongoing.
16. VIR Region - 03 Dec. - 17 Port Alberni SAR members assisted in
search for a 74 year old female, who was believed to
have wandered away from her home in downtown
Port Alberni. She was last seen at about 1645 hrs,
03 Dec 00. Information obtained by RCMP during
search indicated missing female had gone out for supper
at a restaurant with friends. Search is ongoing.
17. VIR Region - 03 Dec.- 2 PEP Air members assisted in locating an
ELT that was reported by RCC to be activated in the
area of the Port Alberni Airport. ELT was subsequently
located in a hanger at the Port Alberni Airport.
AMBULANCE ASSIST:
On 27 Nov 00, BC Ambulance requested assistance from Denman Island
Fire Dept to secure a helicopter landing pad and move a critically ill
patient for medical evacuation. 3 Fire Dept members responded.
BODY RECOVERY:
On 28 Nov 00, RCMP requested North Shore Rescue members to assist in
recovering a body which was discovered down an embankment, off the
upper Mountain Highway. The body was recovered and turned over to the
Coroner.
MISCELLANEOUS:
On 01 Dec 00, strong winds tore off 2/3rds of an apartment roof in the
2009 block 6th Ave., Prince Rupert. Due to the damage, 16 apartments
were impacted resulting in power being turned off. Subsequently
16 persons were provided with accommodations and other necessities as
required.
On 01 Dec 00, a newly rented trailer, at 19-19741 Ave., Langley, was
found to have an unapproved gas hook up to its heating system,
resulting in the trailer having no heat. Three adults and a
one-year-old child were advised that accommodation would be provided,
however, they decided to stay with friends.
