Significant occurrences:
1. SWE Region - 18 Jun. - UPDATE. Bul.#2500, item 17 refers. 41 SAR
members from Squamish, Lions Bay, Maple Ridge,
Pemberton, Sunshine Coast, North Shore and Whistler
assisted in search for a lost 10-year-old male. At
about 1625 hrs, 19 Jun 00, the youth walked out of
the area to adjacent highway, where he was located.
He was subsequently turned over to his parents.
2. CTL Region - 19 Jun. - 2 Kelowna SAR members responded to rescue an
individual who was reported to be trapped under a
tractor, in the Postill Lake Road area near Kelowna. A
check of the area, where accident was reported to have
occurred, failed to locate the accident scene.
SAR members were stood down and RCMP is continuing
their investigation.
3. SWE Region - 20 Jun. - North Shore SAR members responded to rescue
a 71 year old injured female hiker on Mount Seymour.
Hiker had sustained an injured ankle. She was brought
out by stretcher to a waiting ambulance.
4. CTL Region - 21 Jun. - 4 Penticton Water SAR members responded
following report of a capsized boat on Skaha Lake.
Searchers located the capsized boat however there was
no sign of any persons and SAR members were stood
down pending further RCMP investigation.
5. CTL Region - 21 Jun. - 8 Members responded to assist RCMP in
recovery of a motorcyclist down an embankment in
Kamloops. Members were stood down prior to departure
to location as RCMP had recovered party.
6. SWE Region - 22 Jun. - 8 North Shore SAR members were requested to
assist RCMP in search for two overdue campers, one
male and one female on Bowen Island. Both subjects
were mentally challenged and the female was
hypoglycemic. Searchers were stood down when it was
discovered the campers had taken a ferry off the
island.
7. SWE Region - 23 Jun. - RCMP re-activated the search initiated in
March 2000 for an aircraft and pilot believed to have
gone missing during a routine flight between Langley
and Chilliwack.
8. SWE Region - 23 Jun. - 6 Squamish SAR members responded to report
of female in the Macklin River, near Squamish Golf and
Country Club. A male and a female had entered the
water in an attempt to rescue a horse that had fallen
into the river. The male, female and horse were all
out of the water safe and sound when SAR members
arrived on scene.
9. SEA Region - 23 Jun. - 12 Nakusp SAR responded to assist RCMP in
search for a 5 yr old mentally challenged girl in the
Fauquier area, 60 miles south of Nakusp. The girl had
strayed away from her home but was found in good
condition by family and friends prior to SAR team's
arrival on scene.
10. SWE Region - 25 Jun. - 10 Squamish SAR members responded to assist
RCMP in rescue of 3 youths trapped in a log jam in the
Mamquam River, Squamish area. 3 youths were
successfully rescued.
11. VIR REgion - 24 Jun. - 20 Arrowsmith SAR members responded to
assist RCMP in search for a missing 3 year old girl at
the Horn Lake Caves Campsite in Parksville area. The
missing girl was found in the lake deceased. Body was
recovered and flown by Labrador helicopter to
St. Joseph's hospital in Courtenay.
12. NWE Region - 24 Jun. - 5 Bulkley Valley SAR members responded to
assist RCMP in rescue of a snowmobiler who went down
a crevasse about 40 feet. Snowmobiler was pulled out
by friends and was taken to hospital in Stewart.
13. SWE Region - 25 Jun. - 10 North Shore SAR members responded to
assist BCAS in rescuing a male who had collapsed on
a steep slope of Grouse Mountain. Male was successfully
brought off the mountain and was revived by a
paramedic. He was in good condition and refused
further treatment.
14. CTL Region - 25 Jun. - 20 Vernon SAR members responded to assist
RCMP in search for two missing boys in the Rose Wason
Mountain area near Armstrong. The two boys walked out
of the area on their own.
15. SWE Region - 25 Jun. - 12 North Shore SAR members responded to
assist RCMP in rescuing a male who went into Lynn Creek
in North Vancouver. RCMP divers located and recovered
body. Body was subsequently turned over to the coroner.
16. VIR Region - 25 Jun. - 18 members of Nanaimo SAR responded to
assist RCMP in locating a female who went into Nanaimo
River into treacherous water. SAR members, RCMP divers
will be back on scene in the am 26 Jun. 2 members of
SAR BC will also be on scene with an underwater
camera. Ongoing.
17. CTL Region - 25 Jun. - 5 Oliver/Osoyoos and 15 Penticton SAR
members, with mutual aid having been requested from
(Salmon Arm, Kelowna and Merritt SAR Teams) responded
to search the Vasseaux Lake area for a missing 60 yr
old male. Male is believed to have gone for a hike and
failed to return. During A.M. 26 Jun 00, missing male
was found deceased in a mountainous area above
Vasseaux. SAR Teams were stood down and RCMP are
continuing their investigation.
EHS ASSIST:
On 19 June, Anahim SAR members responded to assist BCAS to transport
survivors from a downed aircraft at Otter Rd. and Base Nimpo Lake
area to the Anahim Clinic.
On 23 June, Quadra Island Rescue members responded to assist BCAS
with an injured logger who fell out of a tree in Quathiaski Cove on
Quadra Island.
