Significant occurrences:
1. NWE Region - 08 Nov. - 10 Smithers SAR responded to the Dease Lake
area following report of a male missing for
approximately 10 days south of Dease Lake near the
Stikeen River Crossing on Hwy #16. SAR team, with
trackers, departed by air on 09 Nov and located
missing hunter alive and well in one of the hunting
cabins in the area. He was brought back to Smithers by
the SAR team.
2. VIR Region - 08 Nov. - 29 Port Hardy SAR, Rangers and Fire Dept
members responded to search the Glen Lyon Trail
approximately 4 Km off Hwy 19 on the Holberg Road for
a missing hiker. RCMP located vehicle containing only
his daypack beside the road. He was located alive
and mildly hypothermic. He took a wrong turn while
returning to this vehicle.
3. SWE Region - 09 Nov. - 10 Pemberton SAR members responded following
report of a missing 50-year-old male in the
Lizzie Lake area. The subject was found deceased in a
creek. His body was turned over to the Coroner.
4. SWE Region - 10 Nov. - 10 North Shore Rescue responded to the Lynn
Canyon area to search for a teenager missing form a
school outing. He was located alive and well.
5. VIR Region - 10 Nov. - RCMP requested Duncan SAR team investigate
report of voices heard down by the Cowichan River.
The voices were that of 2 victims of an MVA. Their
car had gone into the river. The male had gotten
ashore but was unable to locate the female. She was
found alive ½ km downstream. Both victims were
transported to hospital. 30 SAR volunteers
participated in search.
6. SEA Region - 11 Nov. - 6 Golden SAR members responded on snow-
mobiles following report of an injured snowmobiler
in the Courts Creek area west of Golden. Injured
person was located and brought out to BCAS staff.
7. SWE Region - 11 Nov. - 12 Kent/Harrison and 12 Chilliwack SAR
members responded to rescue 2 males stranded on an
island in mid channel of the Chehalis River. Rafts
were utilized to ferry a 40 year old and an 11 year
old male across to safety. Both subjects were
uninjured.
8. SWE Region - 11 NOv. - 77 SAR members from Hope, Chilliwack,
Surrey, Ridge Meadows and Central Fraser Valley
responded to the Carolyn Mine area north of Hope to
search for a missing native male mushroom picker. The
subject was found in good condition. However,
2 family members were then reported missing after
they went into the area to search for the male.
They were located alive and well.
9. VIR Region - 12 Nov. - 9 Alberni Valley SAR members responded to
assist RCC in the search for an ultra light in
View Lake or Bear Lake area. Pilot walked out on
his own safe and sound.
10. CTL Region - 14 Nov. - 4 Oliver SAR members responded to assist
RCMP in search for an overdue hunter in the
Mount Baldy area. Hunter was located safe and sound.
FLOOD
On 12 Nov 99, reports of flooding in the area of Munn Creek near
Kaslo were received. Ministry of Environment, Lands & Parks
(Water Management) and Ministry of Transportation & Highways crews
have responded and diverted water away from residences.
On 12 Nov 99, flooding of Coffee Creek in the Nelson area was reported.
The Coffee Creek Bridge structural integrity is threatened Ministry of
Environment, Lands & Parks (Water Management) and Ministry of
Transportation & Highways crews responded and efforts are under way to
reinforce abutments.
On 12 Nov 99, flooding at Hosemere Creek near Fernie threatened the
area's water supply and is affecting local sewers. Ministry of
Environment, Lands & Parks (Water Management) has attended and
reviewed the situation to outline the most effective response.
They will continue to monitor the situation.
On 13 Nov 99, flooding occurred at Goat River in Creston. Floodwaters
have impacted one resident's basement and have stranded resident's
livestock in the fields. There is also a Highways bridge in jeopardy.
Ministry of Environment, Lands & Parks (Water Management) and
Ministry of Transportation & Highways crews attended and met with
the Goat River Rate Payers Association who own the dike in that area.
The citizens have effected a dyke patrol.
MISCELLANEOUS
On 14 Nov 99, an apartment fire in Abbotsford resulted in
approximately 25 families being displaced.
