Significant occurrences: 
 
1. SEA Region - 29 Apr. UPDATE, Bul. 1999, item 1 refers. 3 Beaver 
                Valley and 9 Castlegar SAR members conducted further 
                searches for missing elderly male Sat.15th May 99. 
                Large wooded area adjacent to where missing male's 
                vehicle was located was rechecked. Nothing was found 
                and RCMP have now stood down search. 
 
2. SWE Region - 10 May - 20 Surrey SAR members responded to the 120th 
                and 74th area of Delta following report of a missing 
                20 year old special needs female. She was reported 
                missing from the Sikh Temple since 8:30pm. Search was 
                stood down after RCMP located missing female at home. 
                She had left the temple on her own without notifying 
                her parents. 
 
3. CTL Region - 12 May - 6 Oliver SAR members searched the urban 
                Oliver area for an 80 year old female reported missing 
                from the Oliver Regional Hospital. She was dressed 
                only in night clothing and suffered dementia. The 
                female was located hiding in a closet during a search 
                of the hospital by RCMP. 
 
4. NEA Region - 15 May - 7 Quesnel SAR members responded to the Baker 
                Creek area, SW of Quesnel where a female teenager 
                went over a cliff. The rope rescue team, rappelled 
                down to her and determined that she had been out 
                walking her dogs when the ground gave out beneath her. 
                She suffered a few bumps and bruises from the fall. 
 
5. SWE Region - 15 May - 12 Kent Harrison SAR members assisted 
                BC Ambulance staff with the rescue of three occupants 
                in a vehicle which had gone over an embankment at 
                Mount Woodside, near Agassiz.  SAR members brought the 
                three injured occupants of the vehicle up the steep 
                embankment to waiting ambulance and were then 
                transported to hospital. 
 
6. NEA Region - 16 May - Yukon EMO requested mutual aid assistance 
                from Fort Nelson SAR following report of a missing 
                male, 50Km from Watson Lake. Apparently he attended 
                a "bush party", became disoriented wandered off. 
                9 members from Fort Nelson SAR responded. 
                10 Whitehorse SAR members also provided mutual aid 
                assistance. Search ongoing. 
 
7. NEA Region - 16 May - 5 100-Mile House SAR were called to assist 
                in a 2-plane collision at the 108-Mile House airstrip. 
                3 passengers needed extrication but were removed prior 
                to teams' arrival. 
 
BODY RECOVERY 
 
On 10 May, RCMP requested assistance from Creston Search and Rescue 
to effect recovery of a body from Summit Creek Park in West Creston. 
The body of a 21-year-old male was recovered and turned over to 
authorities. 15 SAR members responded. 
 
On 11 May, RCMP requested assistance from North Shore Search and Rescue 
to assist in a body recovery. The SAR team responded 10 May, 99 and 
searched for a body that had been caught in an avalanche that had 
occurred on Grouse Grind, North Vancouver in January 99. Greater 
Vancouver Regional District will provide a helicopter to conduct over 
flights of the search area throughout the week. The SAR team will 
also conduct ground based radar mapping. 
 
On 16 May, RCMP requested Gold River Search and Rescue to effect 
recovery of a body from the Drum Lake area approximately 18 miles east 
of the Town of Gold River. 5 SAR members responded, located the body 
and turned it over the Coroner. 
 
 
EVIDENCE SEARCH 
 
On 12 May, Agassiz RCMP requested Kent/Harrison Search and Rescue to 
conduct an evidence search following report of a bag containing bones 
located at Bear Creek on the east side of Harrison Lake. 8 SAR members 
responded and determined that the bones were not human but were animal 
remains. 
 
On 14 May Surrey and Ridge Meadows Search and Rescue teams were 
requested by RCMP to search Stanley Park, Vancouver for the bodies of 
2 boys who were murdered in the 1980's. The search was conducted on 
15 May, however nothing was found. 
 
FLOOD 
 
On 14 May, Ministry of Environment Lands and Parks (MELP), Water 
Management reported that Asp Creek, a tributary of the Tulameen River 
near Princeton could be blocked by a nearby landslide. The resulting 
flood would threaten ten homes.  The ground is saturated and rainfall 
would worsen the threat.  MELP, Conservation Office, City of 
Princeton and the Regional District did not have the staff to continue 
monitoring the situation. The City of Princeton Public Works 
Department was tasked to raise the road as a dike to prevent flooding. 
PEP approved a maximum of $15,000 to cover the cost of the project, 
which was completed 15 May 1999.

PEP Amateur Radio Notices:

1.
The Provincial Emergency Program H.F. communications checking net, which operates on 3.735 MHz and watches 7.060 MHz +/-, will open at 1900 hrs. local Victoria time (PST/PDST) each Wednesday, with VE7PEP as Net Co-ordinating Station.

2.
The PEP HF Packet net is conducted on 3.615 MHz +/- LSB before and after the HF voice net. VE7PEP will beacon at 10 second intervals to facilitate connecting. The packet beacon is turned off for the duration of the voice net because of local interference problems.

3.
The Base Amateur Radio Service (VE7RCN) has created a Packet/ PACTOR Development Team. The Team operates a PACTOR net at 1930 hrs. Wednesday evenings on 3612 kHz LSB. All amateurs with PACTOR capability are urged to participate in this development effort.
