Significant occurrences:
1. SEA Region - 29 Apr. UPDATE. Bul.#1899, item 4 refers. 10 Beaver
Valley SAR members responded to continue search for
missing 60 year old male who went missing about
29 Apr 99. On 08 May 99 2 SAR members searched area
surrounding missing male's home just north of
Fruitvale. On 09 May 99 6 Beaver valley SAR members
conducted searches where missing male's vehicle was
located, nothing found.
2. SEA Region - 03 May - 8 Rossland SAR members responded to assist
RCMP in search of 3 overdue snowmobilers 8 kilometers
west of Nancy Green Junction, Rossland. The 2 adult
males and the 13-yr-old child were located in good
condition. They had run out of fuel and stayed in a
cabin overnight.
3. SWE Region - 03 May - 3 Mission SAR members responded to assist
RCMP in search of 3 males who failed to return from
target shooting in the Davis Lake area, Mission. All
were located in good condition. They had decided to
stay an extra day, but failed to notify anyone of
their plan to do so.
4. CTL Region - 04 May - 20 Penticton SAR and 8 Oliver/Osoyoos SAR
assisted RCMP in searching the perimeter of Vasseaux
Lake for a missing 41-yr-old male whose car had been
abandoned east of the lake. RCMP received several
tips, but there is still no sign of the missing male
and the search has been stood down while RCMP continue
to investigate.
5. CTL Region - 07 May - 12 Clearwater SAR were placed on standby to
assist RCMP in searching for 5 skiers, overdue since
2200 hrs the night before. Hikers were found by the
heli doing an overflight to verify avalanche
conditions. They had been in an avalanche; one of them
lost all his equipment, so they were delayed
returning. Subject without equipment was flown out,
all others made their own way out. SAR team stood
down.
6. SEA Region - 07 May - 9 Nelson SAR members with snowmobiles
searched the Pulpit Rock area and plateau of mountain
near Nelson on 8 May 99 without success for 28-yr-old
male missing since 3 May 99. SAR team was stood down
while RCMP continue their investigation into the
incident.
7. SWE Region - 08 May - 20 Ridge Meadows SAR members participated in
rescuing an injured 47 year old female hiker from
Golden Ears Park. She had sustained leg and ankle
injuries. She was located by BC Ambulance helicopter
and transported out to hospital.
8. SWE Region - 09 May - 8 Hope SAR members responded 35 Km North of
Hope to rescue a 14-year-old male who sustained a
broken leg. A helicopter was utilized to transport
rescue team into the area, which would have otherwise
resulted in a 4« hour hike. He was located and
brought out using the helicopter and transported to
hospital.
MISCELLANEOUS
On 4 May 99, 6 Revelstoke SAR were called by BCAS to assist in
responding to a cardiac arrest. The local ambulance was already
dispatched and could not respond. The team assisted with CPR and
patient was transported to hospital.
BODY RECOVERY
On 4 May 99, 2 North Shore SAR assisted the Coroner in recovering a
body from a cliff east of Eagle Lake in West Vancouver.

PEP Amateur Radio Notices:
- 1.
- The Provincial Emergency Program H.F. communications checking net, which operates on 3.735 MHz and watches 7.060 MHz +/-, will open at
1900 hrs. local Victoria time (PST/PDST) each Wednesday, with VE7PEP as Net Co-ordinating Station.
- 2.
- The PEP HF Packet net is conducted on 3.615 MHz +/- LSB before and after the HF voice net. VE7PEP will beacon at 10 second intervals to facilitate connecting. The packet beacon is turned off for the duration of the voice net because of local interference problems.
- 3.
- The Base Amateur Radio Service (VE7RCN) has created a Packet/
PACTOR Development Team. The Team operates a PACTOR net at 1930 hrs.
Wednesday evenings on 3612 kHz LSB. All amateurs with PACTOR capability are urged to participate in this development effort.
